An agreement on establishing twinning relations between the Orsha District of the Vitebsk Region and Smolensk of the Russian Federation was signed today in Brest as part of the 12th Forum of Twin Cities and Partners of Belarus and Russia. The document was signed by Igor Moroz, Chairman of the Orsha District Executive Committee, and Alexander Novikov, head of Smolensk.
The agreement provides for the exchange of experience and interaction between educational and sports organizations, strengthening and developing cultural ties, implementing joint projects for the development of bilateral tourism, as well as stable development of mutually beneficial ties at the municipal level in the field of trade and economic cooperation,ensuring conditions for the development of business activities in order to maximize the use of opportunities for the production of competitive goods. According to the document, cooperation will also be carried out in the areas of housing and communal services, healthcare, ecology, information exchange, etc.

– The Belarusian and Russian regions should be even closer to each other economically. That is, at the level of not just increasing the turnover of finished products, but inter-industry cooperation, creating value chains with the active involvement of small and medium – sized businesses, " said Igor Moroz. – Therefore, the signing of the twinning agreement between the cities of Orsha and Smolensk is another step towards deeper integration between the two countries.
In addition to the head of the region, Orsha region is represented at the Forum by Chairman of the District Council of Deputies Anatoly Silchenko, First secretary of the BRSM District Committee Maria Shmatova.
