The prospects for expanding cooperation were discussed at a meeting between Gomel Oblast Governor Ivan Krupko and a delegation from the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Russia, BelTA has learned.
Ivan Krupko welcomed the delegation. To showcase the region’s potential, the partners were presented with a video highlighting Gomel’s logistics capabilities, industrial sector, innovation initiatives, agricultural industry, construction projects, as well as tourism, education, and healthcare developments.
The head of the delegation - Andrei Fedotov, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) to the President of the Russian Federation and First Deputy Chairman of the Sakha Republic Government - emphasized the mutual and multifaceted interest in collaboration. The potential areas range from diamond processing and expanded cooperation with Gomel’s Kristall plant to cultural exchange projects and preserving historical memory.
The delegation’s itinerary included visits to Gomel’s Kristall Production Association and the Gomelagrokomplekt enterprise.
The head of the southeastern region also invited Yakutia’s representatives to attend the Gomel Economic Forum, scheduled to take place in the regional center this September.
Ivan Krupko assured that the region is committed to productive cooperation, ready to establish economic ties, and implement projects in education, cultural exchange, and other fields.
During their stay, the guests from Russia’s far eastern republic visited the Children – Victims of War memorial complex in Zhlobin District and explored one of the region’s key historical and cultural landmarks - the Palace of Rumyantsevs and Paskeviches.
Loyev District is also a traditional stop on any official visit. Representatives of the Republic of Sakha pay their respects at the memorial site in the village of Derazhichi, laying flowers at the mass grave, which includes their fellow countryman - Hero of the Soviet Union Fyodor Popov.
