The Vitebsk Regional Library hosts the exhibition "The World of bookmarking"

When did the first book bookmarks appear? What were they made of? What is a bookcard? What types of bookmarks have existed for many centuries, and which ones were invented in the 21st century? What do bookmarks look like, brought from different parts of the globe?

More than 150 visitors to the World of Bookmarking exhibition have already seen exhibits from 35 countries made of a variety of materials: from leather and wood to glass and papyrus. The young viewers were especially impressed by modern bookmarks, which can perform many functions – from flashlights and calculators to toys and book stands.

Each copy from the collection of one of the largest bookmarking collectors Elena Bulkina surprises. The impeccable style and sophistication, technology and versatility of such a simple object prove that it is not just an auxiliary element for reading. This vibrant diversity highlights the importance of books and book culture in modern life, as well as the importance of the library as a center of knowledge and cultural exchange.

Every visitor of the exhibition who took part in the interactive quiz receives a book bookmark as a gift as a pleasant addition to their impressions and an incentive to continue exploring the world of literature.

The exhibition "The World of bookmarking" will last until October 31 in the hall "Ex Libris" in the Vitebsk Regional Library.
