The Yakub Kolas National Academic Drama Theater opened its 98th theatrical season with a reflection performance on moral choice.
"Choice" – the name of the production based on the play of the same name by Alexey Dudarev-was dedicated to the memory of the famous Belarusian playwright, a native of Vitebsk region, who passed away this year. It is on the Kolasovskaya stage that most of his most significant works are embodied.
It is symbolic that the first play written by an aspiring playwright, who at that time had just graduated from the Belarusian Theater and Art Institute, was staged by a young director Konstantin Goncharov. For him, this is his debut on the stage of a professional theater. Most of the actors involved in the play are young people who, like their stage characters, make their own life choices.
Before the performance, the director of the Kolasovsky Theater Andrey Zhigur assured the audience that the new season will delight them with their favorite performances and premieres. A week later, the chamber stage will show the life melodrama "Sanya, Vanya, Rimas with them" staged by Vyacheslav Grushov. The author of the play, Vladimir Gurkin, is well known for the film "Love and Doves", based on his work. For the New Year, the youngest viewers will enjoy a magical fairy tale.
There are a lot of plans for the next year, but so far they are being discussed with caution, so as not to jinx it. So GITIS professor Alexander Barmak expressed a desire to stage Shakespeare's Hamlet with the Vitebsk troupe. It was this play that he analyzed this year with students of theater universities at the theater laboratory within the framework of the "Slavic Bazaar". By the way, the work of the creative workshop will be continued at the next festival. Probably in a modified format. The theater's friendship with the Russian university will also result in the performance of the play "Manon" performed by GITIS students on the Vitebsk stage.
Other expected events include the performance "Viy" based on the mystical story by Gogol. They want to invite Kirill Solonov, a Russian theater and film director, a graduate of the Mark Zakharov workshop, to its production.
Andrei Zhigurh plans to stage "Sotnikov" based on the novel of the same name by Vasily Bykov to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. Yuri Ivanovsky will also work on the military-themed play.
Last season brought the Kolasovsky Theater a lot of awards. Among them are awards for the best scenography and disclosure of the national theme in the play " Volkolak "at the international festival" Smolensky Ark", for the best acting duo in the play" The Game of Gin " at the theater forum in Novoshakhtinsk, Russia.
Exchange tours with the Brest Theater are planned, as well as trips with performances in the Vitebsk region, where Vitebsk artists are always welcomed with joy.
The theater will traditionally celebrate its birthday on November 21 with the oldest performance "Nesterka". This production has become a hallmark of Kolasovtsy. It was she who opened the new season for many years. This time, for objective reasons, we had to break the tradition. But it, as the director of the theater Yulia Kharkevich assured, will be continued. After all, the Kolasovo stage is strong with traditions, continuity of generations and devotion to the choice once made-to serve His Majesty's art.
