October fourth is the day of memory of the Soviet party and statesman Pyotr Masherov. This is a special day in our family. My grandfather, Nikolai Shelepen, a scout from Masherovo and a Russian partisan, told me a lot about Pyotr Mironovich.
Born in the village of Zaborye, Rossonsky district, he participated in the partisan movement in Belarus from November 17, 1942 to November 25, 1943. He fought in the detachment of them. Molotov Brigades named after him. Stalin under the command of Pyotr Masherov. Among the numerous awards – the Order of the Great Patriotic War II degree for bravery, perseverance, courage shown in the fight against the Nazi invaders, as well as the medal "Veteran of Labor" for many years of conscientious work on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
My grandfather always remembered Pyotr Masherov with extraordinary warmth. He said that he had never met a kinder and more decent person. After the war, Pyotr Mironovich gave him a motorcycle with a sidecar in honor of the Great Victory Day. My grandfather drove a motorcycle all his life and was very proud of the gift from a famous countryman.
Unfortunately, Kolya's grandfather almost never talked about the war, and he didn't like it. But he told me a story about a young comrade-in-arms who died during another attack on civilians by Nazi invaders near the village of Zaborye. This fighter is a fifteen-year-old boy who dreamed of living, learning, loving, but died. I remember how every summer during the holidays my grandfather Kolya and I brought daisies and cornflowers to the grave of a comrade-in – arms to pay tribute to his memory. People came here by motorcycle. As the "partisan" used to say (that's what my grandfather was called in the village), on "Masherovsky". I sat in the wheelchair and quietly rejoiced that the sun was shining, and my beloved grandfather was driving.
And on Victory Day, he remembered his comrades-in-arms and rejoiced in the peaceful sky with those who survived. I was happy for myself, for my children, for my grandchildren. I was glad that the cursed war was over, that there was peace on earth, that the sky was blue, and that the sun was shining.
