Representatives of defense ministers of Belarus, Azerbaijan discuss cooperation

Negotiations between Chief of the General Staff, First Deputy Defense Minister of Belarus Pavel Muraveiko and First Deputy Defense Minister of Azerbaijan, Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army Kerim Valiyev took place at the Central House of Officers, representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.

The parties discussed the current state of bilateral military cooperation and sketched out ways of intensifying it in the fields of mutual interest.

Pavel Muraveiko noted that Belarus-Azerbaijan cooperation largely depends on the trustful relations between the two heads of state. The fact creates the foundation for advancing interaction, including between the defense ministries. “We, the military, have to simply move in this direction and advance cooperation. I am convinced that the existing cooperation avenues are just the first step of development of broader and more active interaction. The events stipulated by the joint plan have never been implemented more actively. The personal contribution of Azerbaijan’s defense minister and the warm relations that evolve between us as the heads of the relevant agencies have a lot to do with it,” he said.

Kerim Valiyev stressed that Belarus and Azerbaijan should build up cooperation, promote the exchange of experience, and preserve the common historical memory that underpins the brotherly relations between the two nations.

After the negotiations the parties honored the memory of the Soviet warriors, who fell during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, by laying wreaths and flowers at the Victory Monument.
