Minister describes new facility in Minsk as archival hub

The new archival facility currently under construction in Minsk will become an archival hub, where work will be conducted across all areas of the archival sector, Justice Minister Yevgeny Kovalenko told the media before the outcome meeting of the Collegium of the Department of Archives and Records Management at the Justice Ministry of Belarus. The meeting will summarize the work of state archival institutions in 2025 and outline the prospects for Belarusian archivists in 2026.

According to the minister, archival document storage is always a high-tech process. It requires modern equipment necessary for maintaining temperature conditions and ensuring fire safety, and digitally processing documents. Thus, alongside the construction of the walls, work is underway to implement technological solutions into the facility.

Yevgeny Kovalenko noted that the new archival facility will become a unique archival hub, housing not only the archival materials but also the institutions of the archival sector. These institutions will ensure the digital development of the field as a whole, conduct scientific research, and further popularize archival materials.

Regarding the timeline, the minister noted that the work is scheduled for completion in 2027. However, every possible effort is being made to open the facility as early as possible.
